What does this mean?
Well, if you used Google’s automated website when setting up your Google Business Profile, this website will no longer be used. Removing your business presence by June 10th 2024.
They initially announced this change for 1 March 2024 but have since implemented it as of 5 March 2024.
Here’s the key information that business owners need to know:
Redirect Process
When a user tries to access a GBP website, they’re now redirected to the business’s listing on Google Maps instead.
Temporary Redirects
This is a temporary solution, as redirects will cease after 10 June 2024. After this date, users attempting to visit the old GBP website will see a “Page not found” error.
Action Needed
Business owners should transition to a new website platform immediately. Google suggests options like Wix, Squarespace or WordPress, or Shopify if you’re an ecommerce business.
We recommend WordPress for an easy to navigate and flexible website.
Once your new site is ready, add its URL to your GBP listing.
Why It Matters
Those still relying on GBP websites must switch promptly to avoid losing web traffic. Update your Google Business Profile to include the new website’s URL, ensuring customers continue to find your business online.
To summarise, make the switch to a new website builder as soon as possible and update your Google Business Profile with the new URL. The redirects won’t last forever, so it’s crucial to act quickly.
